Planning a Staycation in Charlotte

Who says you need a pricey airline ticket and getaway to enjoy the perks of a vacation? With the ever growing development, entertainment, and dining options in Charlotte, there are more than enough things to discover right here at home in the Queen City.

 

When you want a weekend out of the ordinary, there are plenty of options for a staycation in Charlotte. If you’re interested in taking the luxury route, check out some Uptown Airbnbs or one of the city’s more exclusive hotels like the Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel or Duke Mansion. For a less urban staycation, there are other places outside of the city’s hustle and bustle like The Ballantyne, only about 15 miles south of center city Charlotte, and the Davidson Village Inn, in the Lake Norman area north of Charlotte. If you are feeling more adventurous, check out some of the nearby camping or treehouse accommodations.

 

Charlotte is filled with things to do around the city that are appropriate for people of all ages, offering fun ideas for the whole family. Opt for a day of learning at educational exhibits like the Museum of the New South, The Discovery Place, or ImagineOn. Get outside and visit the many nature trails or lake access spots at places like Latta Plantation, Jetton Park, or the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Don’t forget to check out the Carolinas’ go-to amusement park, Carowinds, that straddles the state line of North and South Carolina or Topgolf, a sports entertainment complex that features an inclusive, high-tech golf game that everyone can enjoy.

 

The Queen City is home to many eclectic neighborhoods throughout the city, with something that appeals to everyone. Use a staycation as an opportunity to check out areas that you normally wouldn’t, go to restaurants you have been dying to try out, and learn what Charlotte has to offer that you were never previously aware.

 

Speaking of restaurants, there seems to be a new one popping up every weekend in the Queen City. From do-it-yourself Korean BBQ and bottomless steak frites to lakefront lobster rolls and roadside cheeseburgers and everything in between, the Charlotte area restaurant scene is booming. Next time you are itching for a change of scenery, try to take advantage of the one you are already in! There are new event spaces, shops and restaurants opening constantly in Charlotte, providing more and more things to do in the area.
